The Decent Homes Scheme

The Decent Homes Standard is legislation enacted by the present Labour government of the United Kingdom that aims to provide a minimum standard of housing conditions for all those who are housed in the public sector - i.e., council housing and council funded housing associations.

To simplify the above; a decent home is one that meets a certain standard of build set by the Government. The homes have to meet the basic criteria set which includes modern facilities, durability and warmth & insulation.

Abbots Services work closely with Local Authorities, ALMO’s and social housing providers to carry out renovations within the social housing market to the ‘Decent Homes Standard’. New windows, roofs, insulation, heating, kitchen and bathrooms are installed in the homes. These upgrades to properties also include improvement to the electrics, plumbing and cosmetic decoration.

We recognise the importance of our relationship with clients, contractors and particularly residents within the community, so aim to provide the highest level of customer care at all times; we understand the needs of the resident and strive to keep disruption to a minimum whilst our operatives carry out works.

Moreover, Abbotts Services looks on this scheme as an important step to build upon and develop within the public sector.
